DBS Update Service

General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and DBS Checks

From 25 May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force, replacing the current Data Protection Act 1998.

To ensure that you are fully informed of the use of your personal data and your rights, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has updated its privacy policy.  This new policy will explain how your personal data will be used and outlines your rights under GDPR. The Enhanced DBS Check Privacy Policy is available to view at:-

The DBS Update Service was launched by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) on 17 June 2013. DBS checks used to be called CRB checks.

Individuals can subscribe to the service for £13 per year when they next have a criminal record check.

Once an individual has subscribed, any employer or prospective employer can carry out a free, online, instant check to see if any new information has come to light since the individual’s disclosure certificate was issued – a Status check.

Childcare Disqualification Declaration

In October 2014, the Department for Education (DfE) issued an update to its Statutory Guidance “Keeping Children Safe”.

This update requires schools which provide care for pupils under the age of 8, to ensure that staff and volunteers working in these settings are not disqualified from doing so under the Childcare (Disqualification) Regulations 2009.
