' During the Second World War, the Germans took four years to build the Atlantic Wall. On four beaches it held up the Allies for about an hour; at Omaha it held up the U.S. for less than one day. The Atlantic Wall must therefore be regarded as one of the greatest blunders in military history. ' - Stephen Ambrose (1936 - 2002), D-Day
The Normandy Experience is the seventeenth LEA Arts Enrichment Course for talented Arts students from East Riding Schools.

Student creating artwork based on Normandy experiences |
Arts Enrichment Courses began in the 1980’s when 30
Sixth Form Art & Design students visited Venice and the
Veneto region of Italy.
Since that time, these Arts Courses have provided hundreds
of students with splendid opportunities for sustained study
of the Arts and culture, in a wide range of venues and now
often cater for the Performing Arts (Music, Dance and Drama)
in addition to the visual arts.
The East Riding LEA Arts Enrichment Courses are very intensive
and offer our serious Arts students a unique opportunity to
experience the work of professional artists and to be tutored
by experienced and highly regarded tutors.
Participants also have the additional benefit of working
with students from different schools across the LEA.
There is considerable evidence to show that Arts Enrichment
Courses serve to raise standards, not only in the quality
of ‘outcomes’, but also in the student’s
attitudes and approaches to their studies.
The Normandy Experience is part of a comprehensive programme
of curriculum development initiatives designed to foster and
develop the Arts in East Riding schools, as outlined in the
Council’s Education Development Plan.
