' Teachers are often required to assess samples of writing…in relation to literacy Assessment Focuses. ' - 'Write On' (East Riding of Yorkshire Council publication, 2005)
Assessment of Writing Sheets
Assessment of Writing Sheets have been
developed to help teachers make judgements according to the National
Curriculum performance descriptions from Level 1 to Level 7a.
The statements can be highlighted according to what is
demonstrated in the piece of writing.
They can be used as annotation sheets
to accompany samples of work collected to show progress over a period of time.
Target Setting in The Primary Classroom
Why set targets?
EN3 Target Cards
The English Writing target cards are linked to the Assessment of Writing Sheets.
They are divided into sublevels from Level 1 to Level 7a.
Each card contains 4 targets and some have blank sections that can be used to
identify a specific target individual to a particular child.
The targets can be used for groups as well as individuals.
It has been found effective to keep the target cards in A5 plastic wallets
attached to the front cover of the children's books, since they can be 'flipped out'
for reference and used as bookmarks as the books are handed in for marking.
The teacher's set has levels included for reference.
The child's set does not. It has been recommended that teachers choose a
colour for the set for their class.
