School Child Protection Policy
This section provides information and resources concerned with the development of a School Child Protection Policy.
Developing the Policy Introduction
Perhaps more than many other policies the Child Protection policy needs to be developed through discussion and awareness raising if it is
to be effective, rather than simply distributed.
The policy template, if adopted, commits the school to training, time and resources for the CPC and other actions that must be carried out
at certain times which will need to be taken into account.
The Head must be made aware of the implications of these when the policy is developed.
These are indicated on the template policy by underlining.
Individual schools, depending on size and phase for example, will have procedures for the development and dissemination of policies and
guidelines.
However it is important that after that process all staff are fully aware of the policy, the responsibilities it places upon
them and the role that they can play in this vital area.
Child protection co-ordinators are advised to read through
- Part A - the template, and
- Part B - guidance for developing the policy
before starting the task.
