' We believe that if we are to achieve world class standards, we need a critical mass of teachers within the profession, who have seen at first hand what they do in other countries and then apply that knowledge back in the classroom ' - Michael Barber, DEE

Introduction to TIPD

TIPD Logo Raising standards through international experience.

The Teachers' International Professional Development Programme (TIPD) aims to develop world class standards through world class experience.

The programme ensures that wherever excellence is taking place, teachers, schools and Local Authorities can access and review practice.

TIPD is concerned with enhancing teacher' skills through focussed study visits and exchanges, providing a breadth of understanding about the alternative pedagogies employed in different countries.

What works in the classroom is the key issue, but an understanding of process, content and microteaching strategies is also crucial.

TIPD Visit Report 2004

TIPD provides an opportunity for teachers to act as reflective practitioners, engaged in critical dialogue over the skills sets and methodology for enhancing classroom performance and schoolimprovement.

The Teachers' International Professional Development Programme (TIPD) will give an additional 2,600 teachers each year the opportunity to experience world class teaching in different countries.

The programme draws together networks of schools, teachers and Local Authorities working in partnership to examine models of good practice, to engage and share in professional dialogue with colleagues across the world and to demonstrate that what happens in the classroom can be influenced by positive examples from overseas.

An understanding process, content and microteaching strategies is also crucial.

TIPD provides and opportunity for teachers to act as reflective practitioners, engaged in critical dialogue over the skills sets and methodology for enhancing classroom performance and school improvement.
