In the summer of 2005 following Excellence and Enjoyment, the National Primary Strategy launched the learning and teaching materials (DfES 05182004 G). Many schools have ordered these materials or plan to do so. They form an exciting 'toolkit' for school based, whole staff professional development, which can be used, according to identified school improvement and CPD priorities over a number of years. In the East Riding we are keen to share the potential of these materials and their links with existing national and local good practice with all our primary schools. We also plan to offer a sustained system of CPD support opportunities to school, clusters and networks, related to these materials. It is intended that the above two-day event will launch the materials and their potential usage. Subsequent opportunities, tailored according to need, will 'follow up' and 'follow through' in the form of bespoke support available according to need over a number of years.
The two day event for primary schools focuses on the National Primary Strategy "Excellence and Enjoyment: Learning and Teaching in the Primary Years Professional Development Materials" (DfES 05182004 G). Delegates must bring a set of the materials with them to the event. The materials can only be ordered directly by individual schools.
The event will begin with a short general briefing on the Primary Strategy, followed by a focused overview of the learning and teaching materials and how these might be used: their links with existing national and local good practice, forthcoming CPD opportunities and time for relection/forward planning, as described below.
Schools are expected to send one delegate with the authority to drive the primary strategy agenda forward within their own school.
SUPPLY FUNDING IS PAYABLE TO ONE DELEGATE FROM THOSE SCHOOLS NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE PRIMARY LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME 2005-2006. Schools participating in the Primary Leadership Programme 2005-2006 will be expected to fund supply cover from the grant they will receive through participation in the Primary Leadership Programme.
Objectives: To affirm good practice and to provide:
  • A briefing on the key messages from 'Excellence and Enjoyment' which launched the National Primary Strategy and the recently developed Learning and Teaching materials.
  • A focused overview of the Learning and Teaching materials, which is made up of three themes, with a 'walk-through' of the two units within each theme, and 'tasters' of how the materials might be used by, and with, schools.
  • Information on the links between the Learning and Teaching materials and other local and national initiatives and the related support available from the School Improvement Service.
  • An opportunity for reflection on how the materials might support current school improvement and CPD priorities and time to consider the 'next steps' to be taken within schools, clusters or networks.
Please note that failure to attend a course to which you have applied will result in an administration charge of £10.00 unless a cancellation code is quoted.  A similar charge will be made if delegates attend without having made a formal application.
Please complete the section below and pass the form onto your Continuing Professional Development co-ordinator or Headteacher.
