Learner Study Plan, Registration and Entries

Learner Study Plan, Registration and Entries

Learner Study Plans

A consortium-wide Learner Study Plan exists (PL 2.1).

Each home centre is expected to ensure that Diploma learners have their study plan validated and are on a course which will aggregate to a full Diploma upon completion.

  • The Principal Learning components of a generic Learner Study Plan are to be completed by the Lead Delivery Partner for each delivery partnership.
  • Once completed it is to be sent electronically to the person with responsibility for the Diploma in the home centre for each school accessing that Diploma course, the Line Lead and the Lead Assessor.
  • In conjunction with their examination officer, the home school is responsible for completing a Learner Study Plan for each learner enrolled on a Diploma course.
  • The home school must complete the Functional Skills and any Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL) sections of the plan.
  • Once the Learner Study plan is completed it must then be entered into the Diploma Validator by the home school and the Line Lead, Lead Delivery Partner and Lead Assessor notified they have been done so.

Entries for Principal Learning

Key Terms which will be referred to when discussing Diploma Entries are as follows:

Home centre - where learners are on roll.

Lead Delivery Partner - the centre that is delivering and assessing the line of learning for Principal Learning units and/or the Project.

If a centre is offering lines of learning to their own learners only then they are both the home and assessment centre in terms of exam administration.

Principal Learning

Principal learning entries can cause some confusion as each line will organise and deliver there Diploma differently.

Generally it is the assessment centre that makes the entries for the internally assessed units. However if there are more than one delivery centre involved in the assessment of the learners work it will be agreed that only one centre, generally the lead centre will make the entries for all the internally assessed unit no matter where they are delivered. Doing so avoids any confusion and makes the administration of the entries much easier.

Externally assessed units are entered by the homes school usually so that the learners sit the assessment at their home centre, a familiar place and follow the examination procedures they are used to. However this may not be the case if specialist equipment/resources are needed for the assessment. In this situation all learners would probably be required to sit the exam at the delivery centre. The centre where the exam is to be taken needs to make the entries.

CAM may have alternative arrangements for their externally assessed units at Level 2 due to the nature of the assessment. This should be discussed with the Domain Assessor for the Line.

Similarly if an external examination occurs on a Diploma Delivery day the decision might be made for all learners to undertake the external assessment at the delivery centre. Doing so would allow for limited disruption to delivery and guided learning hours to be maximised.

30 May is the last day to submit marks to Awarding Body

The Examinations officers at the Home Centre will:

  • obtain Unique Learner Numbers (ULN) for their learners;
  • open and manage accounts in the Diploma Aggregation Service (DAS);
  • complete the Learner Study Plan (LSP) for each learner and input this through the Diploma Validator;
  • register learners with the appropriate Awarding Body for Principal Learning if required;
  • enter for any timetabled written units for Principal Learning (usually only 1 unit except at Level 3)*;
  • unless specialist equipment/resources are needed for the written exam and in this case it would probably require all the learners to sit the exam at one centre. The centre where the exam is to be taken needs to make the entries.*

Lead Delivery Partner will:

  • make the examination officers at the home schools aware of their intention to enter external assessment and the need to make these entries;
  • enter all learners for any internally assessed units (includes learners who are not their own learners but who are coming to them for the principal learning);
  • and complete assessment mark sheets for the consortium and Awarding Body, compile and send off, where required, the sample material to the moderator.

Project

In most cases the Project is being delivered at the home school and therefore the entries are to be made by this centre. There could be circumstances however where this is not the case and alternative arrangements have been made. Please check with the members of senior management with responsibility for the Diploma to confirm the arrangements.

Edexcel entry dates

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are delivered and entered by the home school.

Additional and Specialist Learning

Generally this is entered and delivered by the home school. There are cases however where the ASL has been delivered at the delivery centre.

Please check with the members of senior management with responsibility for the Diploma to confirm the arrangements.

Entries for PLTS

There is no separate entry process for the PLTS. It is assumed that if the learner is entered for the Principal Learning they will also be undertaking the 60 GLH for the PLTS. The decision to if a leaner has passed the PLTS and made progression of their skills is made in agreement between the school and the delivery partner. The application and development of the PLTS for each leaner will however need to be evidenced.

The Lead Delivery Partner will:

  • sign the PLTS Record Form (PL2.2) for each learner and send it to the exams officer at the home centre.

The Home Centre will:

  • the examinations officer at the home centre will then tick this off on DAS (Diploma Aggregation Service) that this has been undertaken and passed.
