Case Study
Driffield School Environmental Campaign
Driffield School has been involved in
the ‘Eco Schools’ for over two years, and has
implemented a number of initiatives aimed at educating and enabling students and the
local people to conserve the Earth’s resources and recycle more.
Technology teacher Nick West leads the scheme, though it is intended that the
students, who will develop organizational and leadership skills will take on control
of individual initiatives, and instil a sense of community belonging, as well as
setting examples to other students at the school.
The school currently has an effective paper recycling scheme running, which is operated by
students on a weekly basis.
There has been a successful clothing collection, which raised funds for the school and the
benefactor, The Great North Air Ambulance Service.
There is also a mobile phone and printer cartridge recycling facility, and a developing recycle
bank site.
We would like to establish connections with other schools in the area and throughout the UK who
are interested in pursuing the Eco Schools scheme, and would like to share ideas and good practice.
