' An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered. ' - G. K. Chesterton
Group leaders are responsible, before booking a visit, for making reasonable checks that any venue/accommodation/activity provider that they intend to use is safe and suitable for the group.
Information for Group Leaders Arranging Residential Visits
List of Local Educational Venues and Providers of Accommodation and Activities in the North of England (including reviews by previous users)
This list has been specifically compiled to enable East Riding teachers and youth leaders to:
- search for addresses and information (including reviews and contact details of previous users) about educational visit venues (e.g. museums, visitor attractions), and accommodation (e.g. hotels, hostels, residential centres, and campsites) or service providers (e.g. adventure activity providers) in the North of England;
- and share relevant feedback (e.g. personal impressions), information (e.g. venue specific risk assessments or photos), and guidance (e.g. recommendations and cautions) regarding venue/accommodation/service providers that have been visited recently, and that other leaders might find valuable.
PLEASE NOTE: The list is not comprehensive and is continually being updated.
The providers listed have in no way been 'approved' as safe and suitable.

Skidby Windmill
Skidby Windmill, Yorkshire's last surviving working windmill.
Skidby is Yorkshire’s last surviving working windmill and is an excellent venue for school visits.
Education packs and the use of a classroom are available.
Built in 1821, Skidby Windmill has been grinding grain almost continuously for nearly two centuries, and is Yorkshire's last surviving working
windmill.
During the week, the miller works between Wednesday and Friday, and, weather permitting, will be able to have the sails turning and producing
wholemeal flour.
The tower is accessible as far as the Stone Floor.
The warehouses either side of the mill tower house the Museum of East Riding Rural Life, which tells the story of the rural East Riding over the
last hundred years, including a range of simple interactive exhibits which are suitable for use by Early Years and upwards.
The courtyard outbuildings include a blacksmith's forge together with the mill's café.
The mill is set in attractive, enclosed grounds which include a wildlife garden, pond and field, and backpacks are available free for
independent study.
Skidby Mill has the facilities to accommodate educational visits.
The museum can also provide workbooks and trails as required, and for a small additional charge, can work with school groups in the galleries.
There is an Education Room which can be reserved for school use.
