Roberts, Jill
Subject: Generic Teaching and Learning
Line Manager: Margaret Howcroft (margaret.howcroft@eastriding.gov.uk)
Base School:Hilderthorpe Infant and Nursery School
I currently work within Key Stage 1 at Hilderthorpe Infant and Nursery School, Bridlington.
I can offer support in planning for and delivering a cross-curricular, child centred approach to teaching and learning and I have good
experience of working with others developing effective assessment procedures.
I have introduced and implemented positive behaviour strategies to manage challenging behaviour and I am experienced at introducing a
variety of teaching and learning styles to enable the inclusion of children with statements of special educational need, including autism.
Russell, Catherine
Subject: Modern Languages
Line Manager: Judi Fairbanks (judi.fairbanks@eastriding.gov.uk)
Base School: Woldgate College
I am currently employed as a teacher of Spanish and French at Woldgate College, a secondary school.
However, I have always been interested in primary languages and when the idea of teaching MFL in primary schools came around for the second time in
my teaching career I 'joined the parade' very willingly.
Since 2003 I have taught in 15 primary schools including 2 infant schools.
I have learned a great deal from my contact with primary children and colleagues and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
At present I am encouraging and supporting the language teaching which is going on in the primary schools in the Pocklington and Market Weighton
clusters and trying to help the schools prepare for entitlement in September 2009.
Assistance takes several forms such as delivering a series of lessons in schools to boost the confidence of the class teacher, hopefully, to show
good practice in MFL teaching and to advise on or provide useful resources - games, activities, songs, websites etc.
With some primary colleagues I have studied medium or long term planning documents and discussed ideas to embed MFL into the curriculum by bringing
it into other subject areas finally providing a document to indicate possibilities.
To help in this area my colleagues and I are working on a resource pack which will provide suitable materials for cross curricular teaching and
this will be available to primary teachers in the future.
I provide training sessions for primary staff who are not language specialists and are understandably anxious about teaching MFL.
Locally, I enjoy hosting Regional Support Group meetings so that primary language teachers can meet and discuss problems that they might encounter
or just get together and chat or pool resources and ideas.
A major task coming in the near future will be to deliver training on the Key Stage 2 MFL Framework which primary colleagues teaching languages
will no doubt hear about in 2007.
I would like to help any primary school in any language event such as a special assembly, Christmas carols or plays, a language day.
You name it, I'm willing!
Russell, Liz
Subject: Mathematics (South Hunsley Cluster)
Line Manager: Karen Dow
Base School: South Hunsley
Shrimpton, Jon
Subject: Secondary Geography
Line Manager: David Mell (brendan.cunnane@eastriding.gov.uk)
Base School: South Hunsley School
I am a secondary teacher at South Hunsley School.
I teach Geography KS3, KS4 (Avery Hill) and KS5 (AQA b) 4 days a week and have one day outreach to support Geography teachers or departments
across the East Riding.
I have been an AST for one year and some of the projects I have been involved in are listed below.

Support for individual teachers. I have helped support a range of teachers from experienced to non-qualified teachers of Geography.
- Help with re-engaging students especially through thinking skills;
- Introducing more comprehensive assessment for learning into lessons;
- Support with discipline;
- Support with planning.
Coaching is requested by the individual teacher through the head of department.
The period of time that coaching is normally provided is 2-3 months.
Support for the Department
- Writing a support package for coursework;
- Updating schemes of learning;
- Writing a new scheme of learning incorporating thinking skills;
- Support for raising attainment of C/D grade students.
Suggitt, Pat
Subject: Primary Dance/Drama
Line Manager: David Mell (david.mell@eastriding.gov.uk)
Base School: Kingsway School
Since becoming an AST I have experienced a range of activities ranging from supporting fellow teachers to my own personal development
through attending AST training sessions and review meetings.
Initially I was involved in "Inreach " work within my own school, working with children and colleagues in Year 2 and Year 5.
The aim was to develop dance themes related to literacy and history.
The outcome was a dance resource pack for each theme which could be used within the school and which would become available for "Outreach"
visits.
The majority of "Outreach" work undertaken has been as a result of requests from schools seeking advice on the provision of different
stimuli for dance and making cross-curricular links.
Much of the work has also included support in the planning and delivery of dance within KS1 and KS2.
Some of the work has been directly linked with schools taking part in "Creative Contexts" and some has been as a result of requests from
heads, to offer support to individual teachers, such as supporting NQTs in the planning stages and assisting them in the delivery of the
dance lesson.
For each visit, I have been able to leave copies of lesson plans and offer other materials from my increasing "supply" of resources.
A recent request for a "Timeline of History," featuring music and dance, provided an interesting challenge, as we danced from the Egyptians
and the pyramids to the 1950s Rock 'n' Roll era from Year 6 to Reception.
As an AST in my own school I have been recently involved in developing creativity in the curriculum.
I am presently working on a drama resource package which can be used in both KS1 and KS2.
It will also be available to the schools I visit in the future.
My work as an AST has been an enjoyable challenge, which has given me the opportunity to meet new people and to share and learn with
fellow professionals and their pupils.
Thorp, Peter

KS3 Science Improvement Plans of several schools within the East Riding have indicated their intention to utilise my services for
in-house support/training/coaching during this academic year.
I have recently completed a course on Training Initial Trainers in the CASE North approach (adopted by ERYC).
This will enable me to conduct two-day training sessions for new and improving CASE teachers.
I am representing the East Riding at a regional CASE Management meeting in December and at a Cognitive Acceleration Tutor forum in
