Frequently Asked Questions
Below are must, should, could targets for each class/set, with the changes agreed on 5 January added within each year group.
Where children are in ability groups, teachers should be aiming mainly towards the should, using the must and could for the few children falling outside the should.
Where progression seems slightly skewed, it is based on teacher knowledge of the children within each class/group.
Mixed-Age Planning
The Mixed-Age Planning project has followed the principle of the Spiral Planning document and therefore relevant objectives
have been mapped together in order that the units may be followed by a two year mixed-age range.
The units include Year 1/2 and Year 3/4.
They have been compiled to include both objectives and differentiated outcomes for each phase.
The mixed age plan are exemplified for units in fiction, non-fiction and poetry from years 1-6.
The outcomes are only suggestions and therefore may be adapted or changed according to the context.
The document was written by Jill Stubbs, a Teaching and Learning Consultant and a group of leading teachers
within the East Riding of Yorkshire (Chris High, Becky Wadlow, Ann Heaton and Nicola Salmon).
Our thanks go to Eileen Bayliss from Skirlaugh Admin. team, who spent a long hard summer typing up the resources.
