' Language is not only the vehicle of thought, it is a great and efficient instrument in thinking. ' - Humphrey Davy

The following information pertains to the East Riding of Yorkshire Interactive Whiteboard Pilot 2003/4.
Project Introduction

The principal aims of the pilot are as follows:

  • Effective embedding of ICT in the literacy and numeracy strategies in Key Stage 1 and 2
  • Enhancing of teaching and learning in literacy and numeracy by developing the use of interactive whiteboards in the classroom

  • enhance modelling
  • redress the balance of making resources and planning for teaching
  • increase the pace of learning

The notebook files have been developed by the teachers in the East Riding Primary Interactive Whiteboard Pilot for use in literacy and mathematics learning and teaching.

Links to Useful Websites

This section contains links to websites which have resources useful to this subject area.

If your interactive whiteboard is internet connected, remember to use the Snaith website for a wide range of colourful and clear resources for whole class teaching.

This 'child friendly' website has some excellent primary resources which can be used on the interactive whiteboard for literacy and mathematics lessons, including interactive games, stories and rhymes.

Click here to access Snaith Primary school website Click on the image to visit the website.

It can also be a starting point for internet searches in history and geography as there are hyperlinks that allow investigation of a wider range of appropriate websites.

There are non fiction texts for shared reading and to enable the teaching of note taking, scanning, locating key words, identifying facts and so on to take place in a whole class lesson.

It is a very useful website for use in primary schools across the whole curriculum.

E-mail us at the address below if you would like to suggest other sites you feel would merit inclusion, with relevance to interactive whiteboard projects.

A working party of primary Literacy co-ordinators have created a list of useful websites that provide suitable texts for each year group and support the teaching of writing.

This is certainly not an exhaustive list and although the sites are considered to be useful, they are only suggestions!

We hope that you will find some of them valuable, but advise you to investigate them further to ensure that they will address your needs and the needs of your pupils.

There are useful resources also available at the following location:

eRiding/ English teaching and learning resources.

Oxfordshire LEA website

This website gives you access to a range of resources that have been developed to use on the interactive whiteboard.

www.ict.oxon-lea.gov.uk/whiteboards

Many of these files have been adapted from paper-based materials that have been sent into school by the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy coordinators.

These resources are being developed in conjunction with Oxfordshire's inclusion in the DfES Pilot project Embedding ICT into the Daily Literacy and Mathematics lessons, hence the heavy emphasis on resources for Years 5 and 6 and for the SmartBoard.

Some files have been written using the Promethean software and for RM boards using Easiteach software.

For Promethean board users
