Resources Generated From Within The Local Authority
Following the course 'Playing with Sounds', teachers and practitioners requested a resource to enable them to hear the correct 'sounds'.
Using the resources available to download below we will work our way through the alphabet, and also try some other common phonemes.
There are two versions of the resource for you to try.
One version is fully 'automated' and designed to be used for the purpose of information gathering by educators, whereas the 'manual' version
is intended for use in class, where slide timings and sound interventions need to be controlled by mouse-clicks in order to facilitate class or
student participation.
To download and save onto your hard drive please right-click on the document title and select 'Save Target As...' from
the menu (Windows).
Instructions to Download Presentations (Windows)
You require 7Zipon your computer to unpack .zip files.
STEP 1: If you do not have either WinZip or 7Zip installed on your computer, please follow the link below to do this. You will
need to use this free program to unpack the presentation.
The presentations are offered as two versions:
- Automated version - no mouse clicks required - presentation progresses at at preset rate - recommended for teachers working alone or with other teachers.
- Maual version - mouse clicks are required to move onto the next slide and to initiate sounds - recommended version for use with children.
2. Select the desired download(s) by clicking on the title in the resource panels below.
3. The following option box will appear, from which you should select 'Save'.

4. Create a new recipient folder on your hard drive, removable drive or network. Call it 'phonemes' or something similar.

5. Next click the 'Save' button.
6. Using Windows Explorer navigate to the newly created folder and from within right-click on the file 'Phonemes_auto_installer.zip' or 'Phonemes_manual_installer.zip'.
7. From the menu select '7Zip', and then the sub-item 'Extract Here' to place the packaged files into the same location.

8. Next double-click 'pngsetup.exe' to install the presentation.
9. Complete the destination path as in the diagram below and then click OK.

(If you need to save the second presentation you will need to create a second folder [C:\PHONEMES\MANUAL], at this point in the procedure, to contain the 'pngsetup.exe' file as they both have the same name.)

10. Click 'Yes' to run the presentation. You will need speakers or headphones to hear the sounds.
