' For clarity, BT's definition of broadband is a connection of 500kbps or more. Some other providers are
currently claiming mid-band connections as broadband and these are not able to provide the same internet experience
for customers. ' - BT
Broadband and ISP Charges to Schools - Notes for ICT Coordinators
The following points and questions have been raised and answered to help clarify the current situation
regarding broadband in the East Riding.
This note is posted in order to keep all co-ordinators up to speed with procedures.
It is with regret that we have had to change our practice of supplying Internet services to schools at no cost.
This is due to the way that the government is changing the funding arrangements covering ICT in schools.
The Local Authority has had to claw back, from grant 31a, 30% of that grant from each school to cover this year's provision.
This was notified in a letter to schools from the LA's finance department in February 2005 and enacted, with a covering letter, just prior to
the summer holiday.
