' Multimedia? As far as I'm concerned, it's reading with the radio on! ' - Rory Bremner
This qualification has been designed to recognise candidates' skills, knowledge and understanding of
Information Technology functions, environments and operations.
It has been designed to accredit candidates' achievement in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the workplace.
Developed in consultation with the sector and deliverers of IT programmes, the qualification allows candidates to select from a range of optional units
meaning candidates can follow either a User or Practitioner route.
Its flexibility also enables candidates to achieve individual units or the full qualification, according to their needs.
Candidates who are successful in achieving the qualification would be able to progress to a qualification at level 3, or broaden their achievement by
studying further qualifications at level 2.
Candidates could also enter the workplace at operative or trainee level and complete an NVQ at a level suitable to their job role.

Overview
The task of putting together a suite of qualifications to bridge the ICT skills gap not only required the expertise of a leading examining and
awarding body but also an organisation which could put theory into practice.
OCR already provides the UK's most popular ICT qualification - RSA CLAIT. Meanwhile Microsoft software is used across the country by a wide range of
people from school pupils and tutors to homeworkers, housewives and businesses.
It is unlikely that any other alliance would have the knowledge and experience to enable it to provide such a realistic and easy to deliver
combination of qualifications.
OCR and Microsoft have been in consultation since August 2001.
They have worked hard together and the Microsoft Office Specialist units within the OCR CLAIT Suite are the end result.
OCR's collaboration with Microsoft is unique because the Microsoft Office Specialist units have been fully integrated into the OCR CLAIT Suite at
Levels 2 and 3.
OCR is the only awarding body able to offer qualifications where the learning outcomes attained by successful study for Microsoft Office Specialist
are incorporated into the National Qualifications Framework.
