' It is important that the children feel valued... ' - Nicola O'Riordan, Curriculum Project Manager, Inclusion
Brough Primary School has set up a lunchtime games club to work with identified children to
help them learn social skills and team building skills, develop self-esteem and experience positive interactions with both peers
and adults.

Brough Primary School has set up a lunchtime games club. |
The games club is held every day for half an hour and involves a structured programme of activities run on a half termly rota.
Each week is focused on a different area for development including:
- increasing self-esteem;
- turn-taking and playing fairly;
- working cooperatively;
- improving listening and concentration skills;
- developing self-confidence;
- and promoting good relationships with others.
The last week of term is devoted to ‘fun’ games (e.g. musical statues).
These skills are taught through a variety of activities including circle time/self-esteem games, parachute and board games and role-play
activities.
The majority of children only attend games club once a week on a designated day, but there are some children who benefit from coming every day.
Older children are invited to become ‘buddies’ and act as positive role models when playing games.
It is important that the children feel valued so they are given stickers, half termly certificates and little rewards, but most important of
all is that the children enjoy themselves and want to continue coming.
