Information:
This unit is a repeat of the optional unit from last year. It is compulsory CORE UNIT for all schools that did not attend the unit last year. The unit focuses on common pupil misconceptions, particularly concerning the five key ideas. It looks at understanding the misconceptions and examines ways of overcoming them. The use of models and analogies is examined.
Objectives:
  • To identify and understand common misconceptions held by pupils concerning the five key ideas
  • To plan lessons that attend to commonly held science misconceptions
  • To establish the importance of models and analogies in understanding scientific ideas
  • To identify models and analogies that are effective in teaching key ideas in science
  • To develop approaches in teaching and learning in science that use model and analogy effectively.
Please note that failure to attend a course to which you have applied will result in an admin. charge of £10.00 unless a cancellation code is quoted.
A similar charge will be made if delegates attend without having made a formal application.
