Broadband 100
Thursday 15th January 2004 saw the official launch of the 100th school to be
connected to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s broadband network - Stamford
Bridge Primary School.
The Guest of Honour at the launch was Guy Smith, the winner of the 2003 Le Mans 24-hour motor
race, who gave a great deal of his time to 'make the day' of the children.
This is not to mention the adults present who were also treated to a view of the Bentley Continental GT
and the sound of one of the most wonderful exhaust notes in the world!
The installation of the council’s Broadband service in schools gives children the opportunity to
use the Internet safely, speedily and, very importantly reliably.
The new CitizenLink structure (pictured below) is a customer service centre which provides the
broadband service to the two school buildings at Stamford Bridge Primary School.
CitizenLink is a network of video link access points which enable you to contact
East Riding of Yorkshire Council, independent advice agencies or solicitors from
a place near where you live, and get advice or help much more
easily.
The link with Guy Smith and Bentley is hence very appropriate as, to win a major motor race the
car has to be fast, safe and reliable.

Guy being a resident of, as well as educated in, the Riding adds that sparkle that shows children
that the East Riding is a good place to be to make a start to a successful life for yourself!
As the pictures tell their own story, I should finally like to thank the Head, Staff and pupils of
Stamford Bridge Primary for their hospitality and invite you to browse the photos in this article.
