' a statement of intent about how a school proposes to address physical activity issues '
Physical Activity Policy
It is essential to promote physical activity among pupils and employees.
There is a strong link between health and educational success as well as increased confidence and self esteem.
It has been shown that people who are more active tend to be less sick than those who don't.
A policy would link to the Every Child Matters Framework and also the obesity agenda which is coming to the
fore, both in schools and in the community.
Why a Policy?
Download the policy below by clicking on the document title.
A physical activity policy is a statement of intent about how a school proposes to address physical activity issues.
It offers the opportunity to create a formal commitment to the health of both teachers and pupils.
The policy also offers aims and objectives, giving clear direction and the methods used in achieving these, as well
as a structured and co-ordinated approach to improving the physical activity levels of the school.
The policy offers the opportunity of consultation with staff and pupils alike and encouraging the school to take
more control over their physical activity choices.
A physical activity policy makes a positive statement about the value a school places on the health and well
being of its workforce and pupils.
The policy is an important document to have in place for OFSTED inspections.
Some schools will have an existing Physical Education policy which can form a useful basis for a Physical Activity Policy.
It is essential that this is a whole-school policy with backing and support throughout the school.
The policy itself should be a succinct outline with information being expanded in supporting documents.
