' You can't put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get. ' - Michael Phelps (swimmer, multiple World Record and Olympic gold medal holder)
School Swimming Programme
Olympic gold medallist, Duncan Goodhew, began swimming whilst still at school. Why not try it yourself?
Every junior and primary School in the East Riding of Yorkshire receives funding to send their
Year 3/4 pupils for swimming lessons in order for them to achieve Key Stage 2 National Curriculum minimum standards.
All pupils who attend the school swimming programme lessons receive a certificate of the highest grade that they achieved during the course of lessons.
The minimum requirement for pupils to achieve the national curriculum key stage two requirements is:
- to demonstrate the ability to swim a minimum distance of 25m on the front or back using a recognised swimming stroke;
- and to demonstrate knowledge of water safety and personal survival.
Pupils who attend the school swimming lessons will be taught according to the East Riding National Curriculum Swimming Award Scheme
syllabus, this is comparative to the awards scheme taught at the East Riding leisure centres.
