This CD ROM demonstrates what could be provided for all year groups by showing some of what could be available in literacy and mathematics for Year 3. Please provide feedback about what you find more or less helpful and what you would like to be provided for other age groups

There is also a link to guidance in the draft 'Early Years Foundation Stage' on literacy and mathematics.

Welcome to the Electronic Frameworks

The National Literacy Strategy's Framework for teaching and the National Numeracy Strategy's Framework for teaching mathematics were introduced into primary schools in 1998 and 1999 respectively. Over the last seven years, the context within which schools and settings have worked has changed. There have been significant successes; schools and settings have improved the quality of education for our children.

We need to build on this success and, in reviewing them, ensure that the frameworks meet the challenges we now face and continue to work at, ensuring that all children really have the opportunity to achieve their potential. This requires effective personalisation of learning, providing the right support and opportunities tailored to the individual needs of every child. This challenge raises the bar in terms of aspirations.

The material on this CD-ROM (and, later, on a website to be updated over time) provides access to:
  • previously produced guidance, produced by the Literacy and Numeracy Strategies, that remains relevant and helpful, repurposed so that different routes can be taken through the guidance;
  • material from the current literacy and mathematics frameworks that teachers find helpful and have been stripped out of the slimmer top level summaries now being printed;
  • new guidance that addresses particular priorities;
  • resources, such as those previously made available through the literacy and mathematics sections on the Standards Site.
