All secondary schools in the East Riding either have achieved specialist status, or are working towards it.
Every four years the specialist schools have to apply to the DfES for redesignation.
Specialist status brings with it significant funding.
Schools choose their specialism based on their own evaluation of their strengths and priorities as well as consulting with neighbouring schools, the Local Authority and others to assess the local need, and how their choice might best strengthen what is already available in the area.
Schools examine how they can work with the local community and businesses to develop strong partnerships.
The aims of the Specialist Schools Programme are contained within:
What Is Schools' Diversity?
In the East Riding of Yorkshire headteachers and the Local Authority recognised the need for a co-ordinated approach to the programme
and have combined to fund the post of a Schools' Diversity Manager, who offers consultation regarding redesignation, planning, and updating on
developments nationally and locally which may affect their schools and local communities.
Resources, information, guidance and advice will be made available to schools via this section of eRiding, to aid the process.
