Cognitive Acceleration Programmes
'Let’s Think in the Foundation Stage'
Let’s Think in the Foundation Stage is currently undergoing an evaluation trial in two schools in the East Riding prior to full publication by NFER Nelson.
'Let’s Think!'
'Let’s Think' is Cognitive Acceleration intervention programme for Year 1 pupils.
In the 5th year in the East Riding of Yorkshire with over 80 schools taking part.
Teachers and Teaching Assistants involved in the professional development programmes.
'Let’s think through Maths'
'Let’s think through Maths' is currently undergoing a pilot year with a small group of experienced 'Let’s Think!' teachers, leading numeracy teachers and numeracy
consultants.
Planning to role out joint professional development in the two programmes in 2005/2006.
The materials are aimed at Year 1 pupils (10 activities) and Year 2 pupils (due to be published sometime in 2005, and will be available here).
'Let’s Think' through Science
This programme is in its third year in the authority.
The Year 3 and 4 materials are linked in to the QCA scheme of work for Science and help to develop the cognitive ability of the children
within a curriculum context.
The Year 4 materials are now also available from NFER Nelson.
'Let’s Think' Accredited Tutors

Experienced Let’s Think teachers who have successfully completed the King’s College, London accreditation programme.
The teachers have all helped to make a great success of the Let’s Think! programme in the East Riding by being closely involved with
the coaching and tutoring of teachers new to Let’s Think!
They have also attended additional sessions in London and York aimed at furthering their knowledge and experience.
pCAME
pCAME (primary Cognitive Acceleration through Maths Education) is aimed at Year 5 and 6 pupils.
The professional development programme is being delivered by the primary Maths Team.

Once fully implemented the 5 CA programmes will mean that Foundation Stage, Infant and Junior School children in the East Riding will
have available to them a whole raft of materials designed specifically to challenge their thinking and help them to develop the
necessary mental processing capacity to engage with the demands of the curriculum.
Teachers (and teaching assistants in Year 1) receive a dedicated professional development package that helps them to understand the
impact of their intervention on the children and to then use those skills across the curriculum.
