The majority of schools are now signed up for the locally agreed programme and we are already starting to see the impact of the award as a key tool for school improvement in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The East Riding award stresses the need for holistic approaches to health improvement and the clear link between emotional health and well being of young people and their performance.

The award places great emphasis on the well being of teachers and other adults as well and the link between a healthy staff and effective delivery of an exciting and challenging curriculum in these interesting times for education cannot be denied.

Available to download below is a document which has been devised by the healthy schools team at the DfES and adapted locally.

The document allows you to gather the evidence from your participation in the HSA programme record it and makes the links with key questions in the SEF very explicitly.

Schools that are nearing accreditation may have had this shared with them by Ian Grandidge, and feedback has been very positive.

It clearly demonstrates the importance of this strand of work in the new 'self-evaluating' culture.

The HSA audit tool also makes these connections really clear- giving you insights into the kind of evidence that will be advantageous for completing your SEF that can arise from active participation in the programme.

Also attached is a guidance document that shows you the contribution that the HSA work in schools can make to the 'Every Child Matters' outcomes and their related inspection judgements as outlined in the A3 sheet distributed at the SSP meetings by Philip Holmes last term.

Once again this makes very clear the importance to the whole learning community of this aspect of school improvement.

Finally, you will also find the current Healthy Schools EDP plan that unfortunately was omitted from the Annex 2 document sent out earlier in the year.
