Study Support
The Future of Study Support
|
 |
It is envisaged that all schools will embrace the concept of Study Support; encourage schools to work together towards the QISS (Quality in Study Support) recognition scheme; remind schools of the importance of being able to demonstrate the impact of Study Support when seeking to draw down future funding; encourage secondary schools to make explicit links to Study Support in their School Excellence Plans.
Objectives
- To improve pupils’ motivation, attendance, achievement and attainment, especially in Key Stages2,3 and 4.
- To raise the profile of Study Support in East Riding schools and the Local Authority’s education support Services.
- To identify and share good practice between East Riding schools.
- To promote more effective co-ordination of Study Support across the East Riding, especially within the local area school partnerships.
- To improve the quality of advice and support available to schools, appropriate to their different levels of engagement with, and development of, Study Support in East Riding Schools.
- To help schools to establish sustainable, long term provision of Study Support by making strong links to the range of other local and national education policies and strategies.
- To link provision for Study Support with the LEA’s commitment to Extended Schools, support for Gifted and Talented pupils, and the wider Inclusion agenda.
- To target Study Support resources where there is greatest evidence of need.
In the longer term
- To ensure that all schools have access to an effective study support network.
- To ensure that all schools have a strategic approach to the provision if Study Support.
- To encourage schools to undertake regular audits of Study Support provision.
- To ensure that schools have access to training in running specific types of Study Support activities.
- To make provision of on-going quality assurance of Study Support provision by assisting schools in the use of the DfES Code of Practice, developing strong links with the national QISS accreditation scheme.
- Ensuring that schools have access to advice on the development of Study Support partnerships. Securing external funding, and re-allocating school funds.
- Establish an effective LEA process for monitoring and evaluating the impact of Study Support provision on pupils’ attendance, behaviour, achievement and attainment.
