We are proud to introduce the first Single Strategic Plan which sets out our vision and priorities for children and young people in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The Children's Act 2004 created a duty on all Local Authority Areas to produce a Single Plan for local services for children and young people.

The Plan is part of a major change already underway in how we deliver services and create opportunities for children, young people and families who live in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Our Children & Young People's Plan has been developed at our Children's Services Planning Days, which have brought together over 200 key leaders from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, NHS, Connexions, Voluntary Sector, Police and Schools.

At our Children's Services Planning Day in February 2006, it was impressive to have such an active input from children and young people. The planwas approved by the Children's Trust's Every Child Matters Steering Group Partners at our meeting held on May 10, 2006.

We have been impressed with the widespread and active involvement in developing the Plan from all agencies, front line professionals attending locality workshops and, most importantly, of children and young people.

Our Plan sets out an integrated strategy to improve how, as partners, we intend to prioritise, co-ordinate and focus everyone's contribution on enabling children and young people to realise their full potential.

It takes into account the diversity of the East Riding, recognising the variety of local needs and the work of the six Local Children & Young People's Co-ordination Groups.

At the Victoria Climbie enquiry, Lord Laming said "The future lies with those managers who can demonstrate the capacity to work effectively across organisational boundaries."

It is our responsibility as the Director and Lead Member for Children, Family and Adult Services for the East Riding of Yorkshire to ensure our vision becomes a reality through effective partnerships to deliver the Every Child Matters outcomes for children and young people.

We would welcome feedback on this plan.
