' The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) aims to give the young people of the UK between the ages of 11 and 18 a voice, which will be heard and listened to by local and national government, providers of services for young people and other agencies who have an interest in the views and needs of young people. UK Youth Parliament Elections 2006

We can now announce the results of the UK Youth Parliament Elections 2006.

Formal announcement of the election result for the East Riding of Yorkshire was on 2nd May 2006 in the Council Chamber in County Hall, Beverley.

Jon Mager, former Director of Childrens Services acted as returning officer.

The event also attended by Councillor Penny Peacock and new Director, Andrew Williams.

There were 18160 votes cast, making this the highest vote in the Yorkshire and Humber region almost doubling the votes of the next nearest authority.

The 3 leading candidates, all polled more individually than the total vote in 2003.

All secondary schools participated, with one, Beverley High School, polling a massive 93% turnout without even having a candidate.

Beverley Connexions, Bishop Burton College, Howden Drop-in, and Goole and Market Weighton Youth Centres also participated.

974 votes were made online on the SaySomething website.

The election winners were Chad Chang and Robert Lingard (both pupils from Cottingham High School).

Jamie Lewis (Driffield School) and Sophie Bean (Woldgate College) were elected as Deputy MYPs.

Kat Downing and Rianne Haynes are elected as non-voting deputies.
